Shoes should be safe to wear on tile floors.
Solid color socks (or nylons - girls only) must be worn daily and must be seen above the shoe.
Coats/Jackets
A hoodie with the school logo is a student's only choice to wear in the building.  These hoodies can be purchased through the CAWNY Uniform Store to wear on cold days.  (No other sweaters or jackets.)
Gym Days
Gym uniforms will consist of CAWNY logo t-shirts and shorts.  Gym clothes can be purchased through the CAWNY Uniform Store.  Gray or black, solid colored sweat pants may be worn over shorts in cooler weather.  Athletic-style shoes must be worn in gym class.

The CAWNY Uniform Store will be open for two weeks in August and then again in October.

Hair
Boys are expected to have their hair cut so the back length does not come over the collar.  Sides may be no longer than the earlobe – boys must be clean shaven.  Students must keep their hair out of their eyes at all times in the classroom.
Extremes in hair styles and colors, faddish, unnatural or multicolored hair coloring or cuts are not acceptable.  Hair must be kept neat and clean at all times.

Consequences for Violating the Dress Code
The standard consequence for violating any of CAWNY's rules is detailed in the Parent/Student Handbook, under the heading, Code of Conduct.  However, the dress code has its own additional steps as detailed below.  Failure to comply with these steps will result in the discipline moving to the standard Code of Conduct.
Dress Code Violations
First Offense – the student be given a warning.
Second Offense – the student’s parent/guardian will be called.  The parent will be reminded that students must follow the dress code.  The parent will be informed that this is the second time their student has been out of dress code.  The parent will be informed that if the student is out of dress code for a third time, the student will be required to wear a CAWNY dark green polo and dress pants, at the parent’s expense.
Third Offense - the student will wear a CAWNY dark green polo and dress pants the next school day.
Fourth Offense – the student will wear a CAWNY dark green polo and dress pants for one week.
Fifth Offense - the student will wear CAWNY dark green polo and dress pants for the remainder of the quarter.
The consequences reset every quarter.
Hat/Cap/Hood Violations
Students are NOT allowed to wear hats/caps or hoods inside the school building (except on Grub Days).  This rule includes the hoods on the school uniform hoodies.  (On Grub Days, the student will remove the hat/cap/hood from their head if requested to do so by a staff member.)
First Offense – the student will remove the hat/cap/hood and be given a warning.
Second Offense – the student will be required to place the hat/cap into his/her locker until the end of the day.  If it is a hood attached to a hoodie, the student will be required to remove the entire hoodie and place it into his/her locker until the end of the school day.
