PSAT - Wednesday, October 10, 2018
It is highly recommended, but certainly not required that all Juniors participate in the test because:
(1) college scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) are awarded to those whose PSAT score is exceptionally high; and
(2) the PSAT is a good indicator of how a student will perform on the SAT, if the PSAT is taken at this point in one's high school career.
It is also suggested for Sophomores because:
(1) it produces familiarity with this testing format thereby relieving some anxiety when it will really count; and
(2) it will provide experience with and help hone reasoning skills.
SAT - please contact the Main Office for date
All Juniors and Seniors planning on attending any form of post-secondary education should consider taking this test.
In terms of one's score, statistics seem to indicate that the ideal time for students to take this test is at the end of their Junior year of high school.
Preparation: There are a number of ways to prepare for this test: computer software, practice tests at the SAT website (www.collegeboard.com). There is also a seven-session SAT Prep course offered at NCCC (731-NCCC, ext. 150).
ASVAB - Monday, December 3, 2018
The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is offered to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors as part of the ASVAB Career Exploration Program. The program provides tools to help students learn more about career exploration and planning in both the civilian and military worlds of work.
