2023-24 DRESS CODE FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Monday - Thursday

(Boys)
Boys must wear a plain, solid-colored polo-style shirt of any color.  (Please note that the school logo is no longer required on polos.) 
On cool days, a school hoodie may be worn.  Hoodies* must have the school's logo.
Boys must wear pleated or plain front khaki, navy or black pants.  Pants may not be jean-style pants. Pleated or flat front knee-length khaki, navy or black shorts are permitted as well. 
Boys must wear dress shoes or gym sneakers with matching, plain colored socks.  Shoes may not light up.
Girls:
Girls must wear a plain, solid-colored polo-style shirt of any color.  (Please note that the school logo is no longer required on polos.)

Girls must wear khaki, navy or black pants, knee-length skorts or knee-length skirts. Blue/green plaid skirts are also acceptable. The skirts must be plain with no ruffles or decoration on them.  Pants may not be jean-style pants, leggings or jeggings.  Pleated or flat front khaki, navy or black knee-length shorts are also permitted.  If they choose to wear a skirt, they may wear leggings, knit pants or tights under it.
Girls must wear dress boots, dress shoes or gym sneakers with matching, plain colored socks.  Sneakers may not light up.

Friday

Boys:

On Fridays only, boys may wear jeans
Boys must wear dress shoes or gym sneakers with matching, plain colored socks.  Shoes may not light up.

On cool days, a school hoodie may be worn.  Hoodies* must have the school's logo.

Girls must wear dress boots, dress shoes or gym sneakers with matching, plain colored socks.  Sneakers may not light up.

 

Girls may have ear-lobe piercings only, no cartilage piercing.

 

* Parents have two options when it comes to purchasing hoodies:
#1 - they can purchase pre-printed items through our CAWNY Uniform Store which will be open for two weeks in August and again in October; OR
#2 - they can purchase a dark green, black or gray hoodie of their choice and have the logo screen printed onto them at one of the school-approved screen printing locations.  Remember, items must be unworn and unwashed before screen printing.  (Designer Sportswear may be able to get apparel for you as well.)

Hair
Boys are expected to have their hair cut so the back length does not come over the collar.  Sides may be no longer than the earlobe.  Students must keep their hair out of their eyes at all times in the classroom.
Extremes in hair styles and colors, faddish, unnatural or multicolored hair coloring or cuts are not acceptable.  Hair must be kept neat and clean at all times.

 

Unacceptable Items
No cargo pants or jeans.
No gray colored pants.
No sandals.
No baggy, wide-leg style pants or shorts.
No low-waisted pants or shorts.
No drawstring/athletic pants or shorts.
No stretch fabric pants, shorts, skirts or skorts.  No leggings or jeggings.
In general, make-up is not allowed in Elementary school, but final decisions are at the discretion of the classroom's teacher.

 

Gym Days
Gym uniforms will consist of CAWNY logo t-shirts and shorts.  Gray, solid colored sweat pants may be worn over shorts in cooler weather.  Athletic-style shoes must be worn in gym class.
 
Consequences for Dress Code Violations
If an Elementary student violates the Dress Code, they will be sent to the office and a parent will be called.
